Six Sixty Recordings was first set up in 1996 under the name "Vegas Recordings" by musician Frank Watts, as a way of releasing the music he was producing. The label's ethos is very much rooted in the D.I.Y. ethic (the production of music, artwork, cd pressing and distribution is all done in-house) including keeping the prices as low as possible. Early releases were on cassette only, then around 2000 the label started to produce all music on cd format. Releases have been very sporadic over the years and have normally only involved Frank Watts' musical input. As for the actual music, genres range from Post-Punk to Industrial, to Electronica and Experimental, Noise-Rock through to more Soundtrack/Cinematic inspired material. As of 2008 the label will no longer be selling cd's (limited supplies of the back catalog are still available) and instead will offer MP3 downloads of all new and selected previous songs. The reason for this ? Music these days is pretty much devalued as a commodity, what with the advent of iPods and MP3's, alot of people (ok, not everyone) are quite happy to download their music collection straight to their computers, sad but true. The label's intentions were never to see how many "units" could be sold, or how much money could be made. The label was set up and has always been run as a hobby as opposed to a business. Always self-funded and for 90% of the time just covering costs. The label may choose to revert back to cd format in the future for special one off releases.
Frank Watts has been performing music in one form or another for over 25 years. Originally playing guitar (and sometimes singing) in a variety of Anarcho-Punk, Hardcore and Noise-Rock bands throughout the 80's and early '90's, before deciding to work alone under a variety of different guises in 1995. He lives in a fortified compound in the hills overlooking Wakefield with his wife, young son and his two German Shepherds, Vic and Bob.
